Slivers of Sunshine

My office has two huge glass doors, which I really love because even when I’m working,  I can see the hills and water of Northern California from my desk.  But lately, all I have had a view of is what has seemed like months on end of rain.

But, every so often, I feel a change in the tone of light to my side and notice that- even for a moment- the sun is out!  I rush out with my camera and try to capture an image.  “The sun!  It is back!  I thought it was gone for good, but I was wrong!”

I just took this thirty second field trip to the deck outside my office to snap photos of a sliver of blue sky and a hint of sunshine.  And clouds have already covered over those vestiges of California beauty.

With so little sun and so much rain lately, it has felt even more important to celebrate the tiny forays into brightness.  Even more important to notice the few minutes a day when it is not raining or dark.

I know that winter can be like this (I grew up in Upstate New York and New England, after all; homes to So. Very. Much. Snow.).  It feels like it will absolutely never end.  But, then, it always does.  I am really looking forward to spring this year.  It is going to feel like even more of a celebration than usual.

And, in the meantime, I’ll be looking for slivers of sunshine.
